My visit to Bridal and Formal was great! It was the first time I actually went dress shopping and I was not planning on buying my dress that day. Well as the day went on and the more dresses tried on, I was almost certain I was not going to be able to find my dress that day. The consultant then said she had a dress she wanted me to try and oh my goodness it was THE DRESS. I tried it on and I was absolutely shocked! I would not have picked such a form-fitting dress of the racks but it was simply amazing and it looked just as wonderful on me! The small details all the way down the dress the double keyhole back it just was stunning! I could not believe I found my dress. I said I wanted to try on a couple of the other ones she had pulled before deciding but I tried on one of them it was pretty but it was not the dress I just took off and that was when my mom and everyone else with me said why are you even wasting your time you were glowing in that previous dress. After that I was sold, I was done dress shopping I had found the perfect one to marry my best friend in!

Zach and I have been best friends for seven and a half years before we got married. He has always been the one that can make me laugh when I don’t want to, melt my heart with a smile, and be my support system. We always said we did not want a traditional wedding. We were lucky enough to be able to have our ceremony and reception at Perfect North Slopes. Before you even have the thought, no, we did not have snow and we did not go skiing at our wedding. (You would be surprised how many times I had to answer that question.) There was no way I was going down center stage and my wedding dress!
The morning of our wedding I woke up to get ready to go to the salon and I realized I was in such a rush to pack my bag for the weekend that I forgot my underwear… My family is very traditional so the bride is NOT allowed to see the groom on the day of the wedding. Well, my underwear was at my house where Zach and all of the groomsmen were. There was no way I was going to get in and out without risking him seeing me. So, I gave the panty mission to my maid of honor Jess for after we left the beauty shop. The girls and I set out to the hair salon (Sharper Image) in Batesville, IN. We spent the morning hours getting our hair curled and my cousin Jenna Dee doing our makeup. Of course, we sipped on mimosas to cheers to the best day ever. Now that we all were looking beautiful, we headed to Perfects. Jess and I had a pit stop to make. I hid in the back of her car while she ran in the house to recover my panties because there was no way this bride was going commando on her wedding day! Lucky Zach new which ones I wanted so it was a quick mission and we were on our way.
From the time we arrived at Perfects, time began to fly. We all put on our dresses and my dress was more gorgeous than I remembered it. Looking at my dress I could not believe the day was finally here that I got to walk down the aisle wearing my dress. I was all ready and set off to get my first look with my dad. This was one part of my day I will never forget. I have always been a daddy’s little girl being the baby of the family. When he turned around and broke down crying, he had EVERYONE in tears. I have only seen my dad cry twice in my lifetime so this was kind of a big deal! The photographer was even crying! It was truly a beautiful moment that I will cherish for a lifetime. My friend Courtney made my bouquet so after the reveal with my dad I got to see my bouquet for the first time. It was so beautiful and she had 3 charms of my 3 closest family members that were not able to be there for my special day. This met so much to me because they got to be with me every step of the day. We then proceeded with pictures with all the girls and my family, then I had to go into hiding as the boys got their pictures taken.
Before long it was time to head down the aisle. We had an outside wedding overlooking the slopes. It had been gloomy all day so I was so nervous that it was going to be so cold during the ceremony. No joke, as soon as the music began the sun came out from behind the clouds and it turned into a gorgeous ceremony. I remember walking out the side door to Perfects to join the wedding party and fist bumping the best man. After that everything seemed like a dream walking down the aisle. I know what song was playing because I picked it out but I literally couldn’t hear or see a thing besides Zach at the end of the aisle. Everything else just seemed to disappear. I had never experienced anything like that before. I was surrounded by at least 200 of our closest friends and family and the only one I could see was him. Zach’s Uncle Dave was our minister and this just made our day even more special. He made our ceremony by having serious moments and also popping in a joke where needed. I may have vowed to make Zach sandwiches for the rest of my life but he vowed to take out the garbage and that is one vow I will not let him forget! The fireworks happened after we completed the unity cross and said I do. We got our first Kiss as a married couple and became Mr. & Mrs. Zachary Aulbach! (Insert Fireworks)
After our stroll down the aisle, we signed our marriage certificate took a bunch of pictures with all the extended family and the wedding party loaded up in the bus and headed to the Guilford covered bridge to take some pictures. Let me just say our photographer Denise Ante was AMAZING! She kept everyone moving but kept it fun. She was a pleasure to work with and I recommend her to everyone. She was able to capture the most beautiful pictures and really showed how gorgeous my dress really was. At one point we were taking a picture down by the creek and she took off her shoes and socks got in the water to take a picture that turned out to be one of my most favorite and commented on the picture of them all. Just so everyone understands this is Mid-October in Indiana the water was not warm it was cold. Can you say trooper! Now in St. Leon it is a tradition that when you get married you take a picture on the bar and it was finally my turn!
After we got the classic picture on the bar we were headed back to Perfects for the reception. When we arrived, I could not believe how many people actually showed up to my wedding! I am pretty sure just about everyone in the county was there. Growing up in a small town you learn that when there is a wedding everyone and their brother goes. I cannot thank our family and friends enough for how special they made us feel when we walked through those doors into our reception. We were all starving so we pretty much made our entrance then hit the food line! We had snickers and peanuts from Batesville cater our wedding and I cannot say it loudly enough that the food was DELICIOUS! After dinner, we were spoiled with four toasts from my maid of honors Megan and Jess and the two best men Wayne and Josh. Let me just say they did not disappoint, Megan had everyone laughing and agreeing on the facts on the many reasons Zach and I were made for each other… One being we are both horrible drivers. Jess gave a heartfelt speech that added a few chuckles. Josh and Wayne both gave speeches that were short and to the point but also heartfelt and welcomed me into their group… Of course, I was already a part of that but now they are all stuck with me! Finally, it was time to cut the cake… leading up to this I had told Zach numerous times that he had to be nice, which he totally was I barely got any icing on me until I took the whole piece in my hand and smashed it in his face and rubbed it all over. It was game on after that pretty much. But that is what I love about us we just want to have fun all the time. We then tried to socialize with everyone but we just couldn’t get to everyone because it was already time to do all the dances. We started with my dance with my dad which by this time he was rocking his tennis shoes like a champ I should say! As we were dancing, he told me: “Don’t tell him I said this but I love that shithead”. Now for anyone who knows my father they know he is not the sentimental type and this was as close to a compliment Zach would ever get. Just Kidding I laughed so hard at this because I already knew dad loved him because he is always giving him such a hard time and he would not have given him his blessing if he did not think he was a good man for me. Zach and Fawn then took the dance floor and had their father-son dance. Then it was finally my turn again to get my first dance with my husband. (still kind of weird being able to say that) We danced to the song Forever Girl by Jon Langston. The first time we both heard this song it just spoke to us like this is us. But so, did the song Queen of my Double Wide Trailer but we decided to keep it classy for our first dance! As we were dancing, we were cracking jokes and just being totally swept into the moment. Zach that he would be funny and grab my butt trying to get a rise out of me but surprise to him I just grabbed his back and everyone started laughing.
As the song came to an end, we decided to just go ahead and do the bouquet and garter tosses. The bouquet toss went on without a fight because usually, it is my sister and I going at it to become the ultimate champion. She would usually win… But anyways flashback to on the bus I made a comment to Zach that he had to do the garter toss blindfolded and I had a few of the bridesmaid’s chime in saying yeah didn’t you know that all grooms have to do that blindfolded, it is a thing. Well, he believed it so flash forward to the garter toss, as Zach was getting blindfolded, I was switching seats with one of our friend Kyle. Kyle had his girlfriend (who is also Zach’s sister) shave his leg for this. Oh yeah, we went all out for this. Zach was on his hands and knees trying to find the chair well he found it and started feeling up Kyle’s leg. This went on for about 30 seconds until Zach to above the knee when he hit Kyle’s jeans. He instantly ripped off his blind fold and yelled what the____. I will let you fill in the blank. We freaking lost it! They hugged it out and I let him actually take the garter off my leg but we had to have some fun first.
Then that is when the actual party began. We danced, socialized, drank, danced some more, drank some more. Another tradition in our small town is that when a younger sibling gets married before an older sibling, they have to dance in a hog trough. So, after we all had some drinks in us the boy’s trough out the hog trough and my sister Ashley had to dance inside it. I am not for sure how this tradition started or even why it started but I was not going to let it die at my wedding. As Ashley danced inside it, we danced around her. It might not be the classiest tradition but we are not high class or anything but we love to have fun and that is what our wedding was all about. I wanted to have a laid-back country wedding and that is exactly what we got. It was not a big redneck fest it was just us and there is not a thing that I would change about our wedding. Well maybe I would change the part where I forgot my
underwear but it made a fun memory. Our wedding day went by so fast but I will remember every little detail as long as I live.
