On the evening of December 24th, 2020, we were celebrating Christmas Eve at Nick’s mom’s house. My grandmother called and asked if Nick and I could come to her house to help her prepare things for Christmas the next day since the family would be coming over. As we were wrapping up, Nick walked me to the front door of my grandmother’s house and handed me a gift. As I started to unwrap the present, I noticed my closest friends were standing in the driveway watching through the door and playing “Kiss the Girl” from the Little Mermaid on a loudspeaker. Nick then got down on one knee as I unwrapped a beautiful Little Mermaid snow globe that he had engraved, “Be a part of my world? Love, Nick.” I, of course, started crying while he pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him! We were still dealing with Covid during that time, but Nick knew how vital my grandmother was to me and wanted to ensure she could be a part of our special moment without any risks. Nick asked our close friends to stay outside while my grandmother watched from inside the house so everyone could participate in our day!
I had a few different styles that I wanted to incorporate on my wedding day that turned into a very Fall Boho, majestic mermaid, timeless wedding! The table decor included various antique items Ariel had stored in her secret grotto- a globe, candlesticks, boxes of different gadgets and gizmos, etc., with velvet table runners matching the colors and material of my bridesmaid dresses. Our seating chart was a boat my fiancé built that was modeled from the “Kiss the Girl” scene in the Little Mermaid. I wanted to add touches of Macrame throughout the wedding and found a beautiful macrame backdrop. I had each bridesmaid carry a macrame dreamcatcher in place of floral bouquets. The flowers gave off a great boho yet timeless feel, with a special request for succulents and sunflowers to be included.
My wedding party consisted of our brother and sister as our maid of honor and best man, our closest friends and nephew as our bridal party, my two nieces as our junior bridesmaids, and two former students of mine that have turned into family as our ushers. Teaching students with special needs for the last eleven years, I knew that would be an essential role for them to take on, and of course, they ended up stealing the show! ❤️ I was adamant about my fiancé seeing me for the first time when walking down the aisle, so I did a first look with my father. The cake was three-layered (strawberry, chocolate, and sprinkles), sitting on top of the most beautiful antique cake stand and a little mermaid cake topper with other flavor cupcakes. We used the same DJ from the night that Nick and I met! We were both at a local neighborhood bar (Rookies) where Karaoke was going on with DJ Jeff Trover. I pointed Nick out to my best friend from across the bar, and we ended up talking the rest of the night and hit it off! When planning for a DJ, we knew Jeff had to be the one to do it! I’m sure it’s not evident that we then went to Disney World for our Honeymoon!
I had four appointments the day I went with my family and friends to find THE dress! Bridal and Formal had the most extensive collection of dresses that matched my style more than any other bridal store on the block! I was in over my head that day and still had another appointment after finding THE ONE at Bridal and Formal, but I second-guessed myself and wanted to keep my options open. That evening I could barely sleep and kept thinking about the beautiful dress from Bridal and Formal. I immediately called Katelyn that following day and shared with her my regrets! She grabbed the dress from the rack and held on to it until I could get there (I was driving from Indianapolis, IN)! I almost let the dress of my dreams slip through my fingers if it weren’t for Katelyn taking such good care of me!
I worked with Katelyn the day of my appointment, and she was incredible! She made me feel extremely comfortable when trying on dresses in front of her. Katelyn truly listened to what “vibe” I was going for with the dress and gave me honest feedback with each one I put on. A group of ladies next to us were not very kind and would give judgmental looks my way whenever I came out to show my friends and families the different dresses I was trying on. At first, I thought I was crazy because I couldn’t understand why women would want to bring someone down on such a memorable and meaningful day. Still, Katelyn also noticed and went out of her way to make sure I felt beautiful every time I walked out of the dressing room and helped me to disregard all the bad vibes they were putting off! The laughter we had talking about it in the dressing room is something I will never forget about that day! Thank you, Katelyn, for everything!
