My husband and I met on the dating app, Hinge (the app that’s meant to be deleted). Our first date was something, lol I don’t know how he wanted to go out with me again, and I didn’t think he was the one from our first date, but he was super kind. We’ve been through thick and thin, and I know he is my person.
In October 2021, we went to Costa Rica because my husband had always wanted to go, so I planned a 9-day trip to 3 different parts of Costa Rica. It was amazing. I had no idea he was going to propose. On the last day of our second destination, we went to breakfast and then returned to the hotel to pack for our final leg of the trip. The view off the balcony was gorgeous (trees, sun, and a fantastic sky). My husband said, “Let’s take a picture.” I went to the patio and waited for him. He was setting up the GoPro on the sliding door for the picture, but then he went back inside. I kept saying, “What are you doing? It’s hot.” (He grabbed the ring.) He comes outside and says, “Let’s just take a video” (intelligent man). Then he starts telling me that we’ve been on an incredible journey together in life so far and that he loves me. I thought that was pretty sweet (still completely clueless). He got on one knee and asked me to marry him, and I burst into tears. After a couple minutes, he said, “Is that a yes?” I nodded because I was still in tears. Such joy and overwhelming excitement.
My wedding day-what a dream! <3 It was just me and my husband in an Airbnb, tucked away in the mountains, getting ready. (still no peeking, though) Mark (my photographer) had to help me button my dress because I was shaking and couldn’t get it. You would think marrying your best friend, on a perfect day, with no one around, wouldn’t be nerve-racking, but it was. We first looked at the Airbnb, and all the nerves were gone, thank goodness. Then we got in the car with Mark, drove to Blue Lakes, put on our hiking boots, and hiked to the top to say our vows. It was a little windy, but I put in lots of hair spray and brought a brush 😉 Surprisingly, the mosquitos were very involved in our wedding even though I didn’t send invitations. Luckily, Mark didn’t get any pictures of me smacking all the mosquitos on me. Once we exchanged vows, we hiked down the mountain to get some more pictures. It started to rain a bit, but I’ve heard that’s good luck on your wedding day. Mark, always prepared, had the cutest umbrellas for us to stay dry and get some good pictures with. The rain cleared up, we took some more pictures and went on our merry way.
The absolute best! I want to do it again! I’ve always dreamed of my wedding day and shopping for a dress, but the older I got, I thought that dream would never come true. But it did! My first dress-shopping experience could have been better. I went to a place that’s apparently more known for other dresses aside from weddings. Nothing fit me, and I was embarrassed. Glad I was by myself. Then I went to Bridal and Formal, not too excited, and had yet to learn what I wanted. Mariah was the absolute best! I felt like we were best friends. It was nice because I went shopping alone, which is less exciting when finding the dress for your big wedding day. I let Mariah pick out most dresses, and I loved them! Each looked different from the next, and I wanted to buy them all. She gave me her honest opinion and was so excited for me! I felt like I was shopping with my best friend, which made my entire experience. Just typing this gets me choked up because Mariah has no idea how special that was to me.
