Chris and I met on a blind date almost 5 years ago. His uncle and my uncle have been partners for over 10 years. Our uncles convinced we would be great for each other, talked us into meeting at Bravo for dinner the weekend after thanksgiving in 2016. We’ve been together ever since! His uncle and my uncle got married on 6/6/2020 (an unplanned coincidence) 🙂 Chris proposed on Christmas eve 2020 in the living room of the house we built together. We then went to our uncles’ house with their Christmas gifts to surprise them with the news. Afterward, we met with the rest of his family and my family to tell them the information.
We chose to have our wedding at Bay Pointe Inn in Shelbyville, Michigan. It’s about a 5-hour drive from Cincinnati. We wanted the celebration to be more of a weekend getaway for our guests without being too far away. The venue is unique because Bay Pointe Inn sits right on Gun Lake and has multiple platforms to choose from. We were drawn to the Woods (their newest venue) because the reception venue, outdoor ceremony space, and cottages for the wedding party and guests are all located on the same property. We loved how close everything was! Bay Pointe’s Inn has found just a short walk up the road where other wedding guests could stay, along with a restaurant on Gun Lake where we were able to hold our rehearsal dinner. It made planning the weekend so easy! 75 + people made the trip to celebrate with us. We had 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen. Both Chris and I loved keeping the wedding party on the smaller side. This allowed us to spoil them a little! The wedding party & their significant others stayed in a 2 story cottage. The boys stayed upstairs, and the girls downstairs.
The cottages have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a pull-out couch. They can sleep up to 8 people on each level, making it possible for the wedding party’s significant others to stay with us, which was definitely a bonus. Close to Baypointe is a casino called Gun Lake Casino, this is where we partied the night before the wedding. So much fun! As a unique addition, we brought along my 57 T-bird on the road trip. My dad restored this car when I was 17, and I always imagined including it on my special day. It was the perfect car to drive around the small lake town on a sunny weekend and include in our wedding pictures. We got engaged on Christmas eve. I bought my dress 3 days later (the 2nd one I tried on, & fell in love!), and planned the wedding in 6 months. Being a teacher, I wanted to take advantage of the time off and plan a summer wedding. We were so lucky to get the Bay Pointe Woods last date available for 2021!
My experience at Bridal & Formal was terrific! The staff made me feel so special the entire time. Bridal and Formal is where I will always go for anything formal. My bridesmaids and Mother and Mother in law all fell in love with their dresses from there as well. My consultant, Lacrecia, who helped pull dresses for me, was so kind and did a great job understanding what I was looking for. The dress I ended up picking was one I saw on a manikin. She paired it with the perfect cathedral veil and hairpiece, making my decision so easy!
