We’ve gone to the same school since Kindergarten! We started dating in the 8th grade, so we were together for 8 years and 7 months when we got married. He asked me out on a trampoline at one of our first girl/boy parties! Haha. We dated throughout High School, went to all the school dances together, and were homecoming king and queen. We then went to different colleges 3 hours apart. College is when we knew we would be together forever. He proposed the summer going into our senior year of college.
The proposal started early in the week when he asked me to have a date night that weekend. Plans a week in advance never happen with him, so I was onto something! Wes picked me up and didn’t tell me where we were going. We ended up in a beautiful garden and stood in front of a pergola, where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Wes asked a guy nearby to take our photo before he did this. So we got it all on camera! Afterward, he took me to the hibachi restaurant where we had our first date when he had just learned to drive at 16! We enjoyed the dinner and told our friends and families once we got home that we were engaged!
The girls all got their hair and makeup down together at the salon. We finished getting ready at the bride’s house. I live right next to the church! My mom helped me prepare while the rest of the girls got ready for my big reveal. Only my mom had seen my dress before that day. All my bridesmaids waited outside for me to reveal my dress. They all gasped. They were in shock at the two separate pieces of the gown. The girls got their pictures taken while the men were getting ready at the church. The ceremony started at 1:30 p.m. It seemed like I walked down the aisle, and the next thing I knew, we were married! We walked out of the church so happy, with a line of close family and friends cheering for us. After the ceremony and before dinner, we were able to have some downtime. We got more pictures with the whole bridal party and made a pit stop at a local bar. Dinner was served at 6:30. We danced all night until 12 p.m. (before the 10 p.m. covid rule)!
I traveled 2 hours to the bridal district with my mom, where we had 3 different appointments. Bridal and Formal was the first appointment. Right away, I saw some gorgeous dresses! I was welcomed and catered to. My mom and I were put in our own little area. My dress was the 3rd one I came out in. I loved it. But I knew going in I wanted a detachable skirt. We tried multiple detachable skirts, but none did it for me. Eventually, someone thought of a skirt that belonged to a completely different dress. We tried the two together, and even though they weren’t meant to go together, they matched perfectly. I left Bridal and Formal not purchasing the dress and skirt. I went to my next appointment and left there pretty quickly. I felt like I was on the back burner and only helped by one consultant. At Bridal and Formal, I had multiple girls tell me I looked stunning and had accessory ideas coming from more than just one person. I felt like the spotlight was on me! My mom and I went back to Bridal and Formal to purchase the dress and skirt, and a pretty long veil sparkled.
Molly was great! Made me feel beautiful! But never pushed anything upon me. It felt like their only job was to get me to buy a dress at some other bridal shops. At Bridal and Formal, she truly wanted me to love a dress.
