Geena was leaving her job, and her boss and coworkers wanted to say goodbye to her, so they decided to have a farewell happy hour for her on October 26, 2016. They just wanted to have a fun and harmless time together, but things turned unexpectedly when they created a dating profile for Geena on a popular dating app called Tinder without her permission. While looking at different profiles, they came across a man named Adam, who had shown great interest in Geena’s profile. Without thinking twice, they matched Geena with Adam and started talking. The next day, Geena and Adam went on a date that lasted for five hours. As it turned out, Adam was very talkative, and they hit it off well. After four and a half years, Geena and Adam got married.
Adam and Geena married recently in a small courthouse ceremony in Cheviot, OH. But they wanted to celebrate their wedding with their friends and family in Minneapolis, so they organized a hybrid Indian-American celebration. The wedding weekend was filled with fun activities, starting with “Mehendi Night” at Geena’s parents’ house in Eden Prairie, where they enjoyed mouth-watering Indian food and danced the night away.
The next day, Geena & Adam continued the festivities with our “Sangeet” at Muse in Minneapolis. They gave out beautiful Indian jewelry and purses to their guests, and the bridal party put on a choreographed dance performance that had everyone cheering. They also had meaningful toasts and many laughs, making it a night to remember.
On the wedding day, Adam arrived on a white horse surrounded by family and friends dancing to the beat of the “dhol.” The day started with a traditional “Baraat,” which led directly into the Hindu ceremony, where Geena’s father explained the essence of Hinduism to their guests. Geena’s great aunt and her son officiated beautifully, retaining the heart of each Hindu ritual while sharing its meaning with the audience. After a brief break, they moved into the American ceremony, where Adam and Geena exchanged vows.
Finally, the guests enjoyed speeches from Geena and Adam’s fathers, Geena’s sister, and Adam’s brother. They also had plenty of food and dessert and danced the night away. Geena and Adam gave away poetry books as centerpieces, as they both love poetry and bonded over it since their first Tinder conversation.
I wanted to have a wedding that didn’t create any unnecessary waste. But it was difficult to find everything secondhand for my Indian wedding. I found secondhand options for all six outfits except for my white wedding dress. My cousin and bridesmaid Asha took me to Bridal and Formal, where I saw a stunning dress by Badgley Mishka. It was the first one I tried on, and I fell in love with it. I am grateful to Asha and my sister for their support, which made the experience even more special.
The person who helped me find my wedding dress, Lacrecia, was terrific. She was honest and personalized in her approach to help me feel like a queen. I also went to Kleinfeld in New York City to try on dresses, but the attention and guidance I received from Lacrecia at Bridal and Formal were unmatched.
