Macey and Ben met at a small beach near Cleveland, Ohio, where they lived. They had been there through a mutual friend. Macey was the one who had the epiphany moment of looking at Ben and thinking, “Yep, that’s my husband,” shortly after seeing him and thinking, “Wow, that’s the hottest guy I’ve ever seen.” However, Ben didn’t pay much attention to her on the first day. Macey spent the whole day pretending she liked football to get closer to him. They only met again when a girl from that day invited them to a party, where Macey spent the whole night trying to get him to talk to her. She pretended she was “cold” so he would give her a hoodie and then “forgot” to return it so he would have to see her again. Later, Macey and Ben met at a fair and had a great time; the rest is history.
A year later, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was shipped off to work on the ocean as an AAV Crew Chief for the next four years. During their relationship at the beach, Macey and Ben spent much time because he was permanently stationed near the water. So, naturally, he proposed at the beach. They had a good friend who was a professional photographer in the area where Ben was stationed. Ben had reached out to her months before his plans to propose. He knew Macey wanted pictures of their proposal someday, so he ensured it was just that. Ben knew Macey would be suspicious if he made plans to get photos taken, so he had their friend reach out to her and offer a “free photo session” at the beach to help train her new assistant, to which she said yes. They planned it for the next trip Macey would take to come down and visit. She picked out their outfits, got herself all done (nails done, of course), and met up at the beach. While taking some photos, the photographer pulled Macey aside for some pictures of her “for training purposes” while Ben was kneeling behind her. Afterward, the photographer told Macey to turn around, and she just saw him there on one knee with the cheesiest look on his face and the most beautiful ring in his hands. Macey started bawling, and she honestly couldn’t tell you what he said then. But she was ecstatic that they were finally engaged in front of the beautiful ocean and that she got to officially spend the rest of her life with the person she loved most. It was the best day ever.
Macey and Ben’s wedding day was filled with emotions, excitement, and anticipation. The couple had been together for nearly six years but were in a long-distance relationship for four years because Ben served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He proposed to Macey at the on-base beach about a year and a half prior and finally came home for good the following October. They moved into their first place together and spent the next nine months preparing for their big day. Needless to say, Macey and Ben were thrilled for this long-awaited moment.
Macey had spent much time detailing the day, but things didn’t go as planned. It rained the entire day, causing stress because they had designed to have an outdoor ceremony. The couple had to decide to move the ceremony indoors, and they panic-bought close to 100 umbrellas from a nearby store in anticipation of walking down the aisle in the pouring rain. As the time came closer, Macey prayed to her mom, who had passed away from ALS in 2017, to hold the rain for such a special moment. Miraculously, the sky cleared up at the exact time of their ceremony and for the entirety of the time it took them to say, “I do!”
The moment was bittersweet for Macey as she felt her mom’s presence, telling her she was right there with her. The ceremony was beautiful and filled with love that radiated from everyone there. After the ceremony and procession, the rain returned, and the bridal party embraced it, taking pictures in the rain. The rest of the night was spent dancing, laughing, cheering, and reminiscing with family and friends of all ages. It was a fantastic day and truly one to remember.
Macey and Ben advise couples to take in every moment of their wedding day because it flashes before their eyes in a heartbeat and will be gone before they know it.
I am from Cleveland. Recently, my sister, my maid of honor, and my other best friend (also a bridesmaid) planned a girl’s weekend to drive to Cincinnati and explore the famous Bridal District. I had scheduled at least four bridal appointments, and Bridal and Formal was the first one on our list. When I booked this appointment, I had to give a small deposit because they mentioned that there would be a Randy Fenoli Trunk Show that weekend. I didn’t know what that meant then, but I paid the deposit anyway.
We parked and walked up to the store on the appointment day. I was surprised that many people were in and out of the store. As we walked in, I saw Randy Fenoli’s pup, Chewy, running around the store, and I was shocked to realize that not only was this my first appointment of the day, but I was going to meet Randy Fenoli himself! I grew up watching Say Yes to the Dress with the girls I had with me that day, and meeting the icon of those years on the day I said yes to my wedding dress was a dream come true.
My consultant and I picked several dresses during the appointment, including a couple from Randy’s collection. I was nervous because I am very indecisive and have some commitment issues regarding purchases. But, my consultant was very in tune with that and helped me make rules for the day to narrow it down to THE dress. One of the rules was that it didn’t stay in the room if I didn’t love it. Another rule was that I could only end with my top three dresses. This was perfect because my final decision would have been between 10 dresses if it were up to me.
Lacrecia, my consultant, was excellent. She made it easy and pain-free for me, considering how overwhelming it can be to make those sorts of decisions. When I found THE dress, Lacrecia did the solid of “doing me up” and making me feel like a bride when I said yes to my dress. I did not go to any other bridal appointments we had scheduled for the day. The whole day was surreal, and it was an incredible experience that I will never forget.
