Matt and I met at work in 2015. We played together on one of our works sand volleyball teams. We quickly realized we had so much in common and loved attending sporting events, concerts, and traveling together. Matt’s 30th Birthday Cruise to the Bahamas was one of our favorite trips. Before we set sail, a big group of friends got dinner and drinks in Miami. We were all having a great time, and Matt found a creative way to get on stage and proposeThat led to a night filled with celebrating with our friends. What a great way to set the tone for our trip to the Bahamas!
We had a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Rosewood Manor in Miamisburg, OH. Our wedding was officiated by one of our best friends who has known us from friends to husband and wife. He told stories of how e met, all the trips we have been on together, and the nights we spent together playing sand volleyball. It was a hot and sunny day – so we tried to keep it short and sweet.
Some of our other favorite details of the day were Koozies with our dog Hayes on them, a photo booth (which ended up being our guest book), and Matt’s custom suit with our wedding date and last name stitched on the inside. And our dessert was donuts from our favorite local shop, Bill’s Donuts. Everyone who knows us knows we love classic rock music. So the ceremony music, we chose orchestra covers of our favorite songs – with Matt and the wedding party walking down to a cover of Africa by Toto and Kelly walking down the aisle to a cover of Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.
With my Dad passing away in 2005, we wanted to ensure he was a part of the special day. My sister had gifted me a charm for my bouquet so he could still be with me during the wedding. His lifelong best friend walked me down the aisle, and Matt also elected to wear my Dad’s wedding ring to bring his spirit into our marriage. It was so special to feel my Dad’s presence on our wedding day.
Matt and I are a very laid-back couple who loves having fun, and we wanted our wedding day to emulate that. We asked our DJ to play fun, upbeat music throughout dinner and into the reception. It was so fun hearing everyone sing along and loosen up even before dinner was served. There were lots of laughs during the reception, from getting my bouquet stuck in the chandelier – to the best man’s rambling, nonsensical speech!
We had LED glow sticks to light up the dance floor. It really made the venue look incredible to see the rainbow lights flying around ( and start to be used as weapons in some cases). Our dance floor was packed the entire night, making us SO happy to look around and see all of our favorite people in one place and having a blast.
After the reception, we used our party bus as a shuttle to keep the party going and headed to a bar to continue celebrating! Matt and I headed to Jamaica a couple days after our wedding and had the best honeymoon! We soaked up the sun, ate a tone of jerk chicken, and drank plenty of Red Stripe. We spent most of the trip reminiscing on the unique wedding we had.
My mom, sister, and two sisters-in-law headed down to Bridal and Formal to help me try on wedding dresses. I was very nervous because I tend to be indecisive. Thankfully, I have paired up the Jen. She asked what I was thinking of for my bridal gown. I told her I wanted something fitting and potentially on the open back. Jen then let me pick a few, and she brought a few as well to try on. The first two I tried on were lovely, and I liked them. Jen hand-picked one she was REALLY excited about. I tried it on, and it was absolutely perfect. My family loved the Randy Fenoli Barcelona dress and knew it was the one for me! I probably would have never picked the dress on a hanger because it just doesn’t do it justice until it’s on. I tried on a couple more, but I think everyone knew I had already found the one. To help make the final decision, Jen took me back and did my hair in an updo, putting on some jewelry and a beautiful veil to make it feel more bridal. This really helped us all picture it on the day of.
I feel so lucky that I got to work with Jen. Without Jen, I would have never found my dream dress. She listened to what kind of dress I wanted and used her expertise to find something she thought would fit me well. Jen was so fun, friendly, and easy to work with. She also went the extra mile by doing my hair and finding jewelry and a veil that really added to the final look, making the decision super easy!
