We met listening to music at Mansion Hill Tavern in Newport. He proposed in our living room when I got home from work with “When I’m 64” by the Beatles playing on the record player. Simple, sweet, perfect.
Our original wedding date was March 21st, 2020. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our big party five days before due to all restrictions. We had a small ceremony in my in-law’s living room, with most of our family and friends watching far away on Facebook live. The Monday before the wedding, my maid of honor and I rushed around the city, changing all the wedding plans, and found a simple white cocktail dress for me to wear. While our wedding day was still a perfect day surrounded by love and happiness, it wouldn’t have felt right wearing my big beautiful dress in such a low-key setting.
We rescheduled our wedding celebration for March 20th, 2021, hoping the pandemic would be over. We had to push back our date to early 2021 with low vaccination rates and high infection rates. After some back and forth with the venue, we finally planned our party for August 6th, 2021.
On the day of the party, those typical wedding date jitters were non-existent. I’d been married to my husband for 16 months. We were both just too excited to finally be having the party (and mostly, we were PUMPED to be done wedding planning!)
The moment I was looking forward to most was finally being able to show my dress to my husband- more than two years after I bought it! That moment we got to share together at our venue (which also happened to be the location of our second date) was something so special to us. Maybe it was fate that it also hosted our second wedding? Either way- I felt beautiful- and spent the rest of the night basking in the joy of being the bride I had envisioned when I said yes to my dress way back in 2019!
When I got engaged, I knew the first place I wanted to try to find my dress was Bridal and Formal. My best friend purchased her dress here and worked with Iris. None of us could find the right dress until Iris pulled the PERFECT dress for her. Immediate tears- just everything she wanted.
When we got to B&F the first time- you can imagine my excitement when I found out we’d be working with Iris! The mistake I made on the first visit was too many people. The first visit was productive but ultimately unsuccessful.
After my first visit, I went to a few different stores but just couldn’t find the right mix of what I wanted. The process of finding my dress was stressful, to say the least. I’m not quite plus size, but definitely not the typical sample size. Also, I’m a penny pincher- and had a hard time justifying spending so much money on a dress I’d wear for one day.
Our second visit was with a smaller group and was unable to pull gowns without much luck. Iris pulled a dress out of nowhere and- WOW. It was perfect! She pulled Charlene from Maggie Sottero- it was the perfect mix of glam, understated with a chiffon skirt- but wow factor with the way the dress sparkled and moved! I work in sales- and I fully believe in giving the professionals the reins in situations like this. Iris knew the inventory, my budget, and what I liked and did not like. She picked up on cues that helped find me the perfect dress. Not only that- but she is a joy to work with.
