Our wedding style was rustic elegance. The ceremony was held outside under the fall trees in red, yellow, orange, and green. The day was overcast but reasonably warm for the end of October. I walked down the aisle to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” with my dad. I didn’t think I would cry, but I started to tear up when I saw my fiancĂ© crying. We exchanged vows and put letters in a box to each other during a ceremony officiated by Rachel’s of my dearest friends. We walked out to a Cat Stevens song that was a surprise from my father to my mother (as it was the song they walked into at their wedding over 30 years ago). The reception was in a rustic barn on the property that had been around for a long time. Most of the decoration came from the flowers and hundreds of twinkle lights around the barn. Our first dance as a couple was so fun and intimate.
On the other hand, my dad and I went back to my TX roots, where we danced to a Randy Travis song, Deeper than the Holler, which was a little fast-paced for our awkward dancing, but it made it that much more special. Ian and his mom danced to James Taylor, who has always held a special place for them. The food from Mrs. B’s Catering was beyond amazing, and we also had s’mores bar down by the firepit, which was a huge hit. The DJ kept the party going with fantastic music, and we danced away the rest of the night. Unfortunately, the end came too soon, and we left, passing through a sparkler-lit pathway out of the venue.
My dress was on a mannequin that we could see through the window while waiting for our appointment. It was unlike most dresses I had tried on up to that point. I always imagined myself in a form-fitting dress with a lot of lace. However, my mom saw the dress and said I should try it. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one. Although I tried on multiple dresses after mine, none could compare.
